Szászváros, ferences teplom

Árpád-házi Szent Erzsébet, plébánia
On duty

1224-ben Warasnak írták. 1421-ben Zazwarus volt a neve. 1200 körül telepedtek ide a szászok, és biztosan nem maradtak templom nélkül. 1291-ből már a plébános neve is ismeretes: Hench. Későbbi szász neve, Broos, a templom védőszentjétől, Szent Ambrustól származik. A 12–13. században épült templom helyébe lépett a ma is álló 15. századi templom. 1260-ból Varasini néven származik adat a ferences templomról, 1344-ben pedig a beginákról. 1370-ben Róbert Károly felesége, Erzsébet templomot építtetett a ferenceseknek. A reformáció idején a szászok lutheránusok lettek, és közösen használták a magyar reformátusokkal a plébániatemplomot. A ferences templomot 1660-ig használták, ugyanis 1661-től a tatár pusztítás következtében 1730-ig romokban hevert. Ekkor kapták vissza a ferencesek, akik előbb oratóriumot, majd 1749-től templomot emeltek e romok helyén. 1880-ban nagy hajót is építettek hozzá. A templom mellett katolikus iskolát létesítettek 1739-ben. Szászvárosi származású volt Oláh Miklós esztergomi érsek. 1999-ben a Szent Ferenc Alapítvány megnyitotta a kolostorban a Szent Erzsébet Gyermekvédelmi Központot, amelyben jelenleg 40 bentlakó és 30 napközis gyereket látnak el.

For World Mission Day 2026, which marks the centenary of a celebration established by Pius XI that is very dear to the Church, I have chosen the theme “One in Christ, united in mission.” Following the Jubilee Year, I wish to encourage the whole Church to continue its missionary journey with joy and zeal in the Holy Spirit.

Each year the World Day of Migrants and Refugees invites us to turn our attention to different aspects of the complex phenomenon of migration. For this 112th World Day, the theme, “Even just one of these children,” draws our attention to the minors directly involved in the experience of migration and flight, to the care owed to them, and to the Lord’s promise that “whoever receives one such child in my name receives me” (Mk 9:37).
